You'll find the thread links on the bottom of the article that proves it.
Awesome, I'll keep my eye out for these types of links when I'm on the wiki from now on. Thanks!

It matters more than GWO's one for sure.

Look at the threads on whether Soul Reaping should be reverted back to it's original form now that it does not trigger of spirits any longer (eg. no timer).
You have your reason why we should not be listened to RIGHT there!

This forum does not matter. It will not cure cancer, it will not put an end to war, it will not relieve global poverty or hunger.

As for the context of the game - certainly ANet representatives read this forum and respond. So information gets communicated to the devs via this forum. Several posters have mentioned specific ideas that have been implemented. Whether or not this is sufficient to make the forum "matter" depends upon your interpretation of how much player feedback should actually be implemented in a game. The responses you get are therefore subjective; take the evidence provided and draw your own conclusions.

"Does this forum matter?" No it doesn't. It's just a website to converse and pass time. Nearly all forums are like this.

The only section of the forum that's beneficial is probably the bug forum.

People generally have a short memory unless it's about nerfing their favorite build. If you think back months, even years, there are plenty of stuff that made it into the game based on player feedback.

-Not having to use SoC when boss is alive
-Removal of attribute refund points
-Ability to gain Kurzick/Luxon faction while vanquishing
-Opening alliance chat to everybody
-Pet controls
-Dye preview
-Trade window alert about changed offers
-Damage text size adjustmens
-Skill icon texts on/off
-Guild hall NPCs
-Extra storage
etc.

Whether the suggestions got read specifically here in GWG or elsewhere is anybody's guess.

i can think of 2
fade text in distance now has a toggle on/off after the amount of complaint on this forum

and sadly the next one is hair with festival hat, resulting in the ungly icycle crown.

I think the forum ideas, suggestion or compalin matters only when the complain/suggestion is doable/reasonable/implementable.

I think it does matter but there probably is a lot of misunderstanding in what way it matters.
I do think they read this forum but I don't think that if a couple hundred people here sign a petition that it will have the desired effect. It seems to me that even though these forums are part of their research it is not the only place they look to see what players are interested in and talking about.
With 5 million copies sold and probable a player base of over a million now I am quite sure that they don't just check the guru forums is all I'm saying but they do look here as well.

The forums (and as one among many, his one) do matter. However, only up to a point.

What one may consider a good idea, another considers a bad one.

Anet has to go a step further. Is something really an issue (like Ursan blessing)? Is there a clear solution? If it is, can it be done with a reasonable amount of effort (why auction house isn't implemented in GW1)? Etc etc etc.

In the end: a forum does matter one little bit. Any single post, no. A forum wide issue, possibly.

I would say both Guru and GWO have major influence on ANet.

They actively listen to our ideas, and some ideas that turned out bad originated in these two forums.

I proposed the selling of char slots over a year ago, and now the store is growing slowly towards an item-seller-shop.

I was initially one of the supporters of PvE only skills, but after the first sunspear/kurzick skill wave they were so badly implemented in GW:EN that it just sucks.

I fortunately do not feel guilty for titles becoming the game, I was against benefits tied to title ranks, as some people suggested - and how it was implemented in the end.

I'd guess that A Net does listen, they just don't respond, or get involved in discourse with rabid zealots etc.

I've seen TONS of suggestions implemented. Use the suggestion forum for you ideas.

Make sure they're easy to read, to the point and concise, to paraphrase A Net.

Granted, who originally proposed these ideas is hard to distinguish. But this forum has been an extensive discussion and idea factory, which helped define what overall features players wanted.

Then, depending on how fitting for the game they were, they were added in a way that fit GW well.

There are also ideas which will never (never say never) see the light of day.
Auction house.
Hairdresser.
Unlimited levels.
and more.

It can't be on pointed really, but a few threads that have taken place here talk about an issue that ends up getting dealt with in a few weeks or months. I reckon one of the discussions that I felt had an impact was how people ragequitted and leeched in RA.

You obviously don't see the other half - the crap - that people post on these forums about pvp. It took anet a very very long time to know which threads to ignore.

Two excellent examples of player ideas that made it into the game that I can think of without evening having to pause (not necessarily from the Guru forums, but great evidence none-the-less):
  • Icy Dragon Sword
  • The Dragon Arena

There are plenty of others as well, including some that started out as player ideas and evolved so much during design iterations that the final product looks nothing like the original idea - but still owes its very existence to ideas that players presented.

I don't think ANet cares too much about the forum.

Izzy gets paid to balance the game - all he'd have to do is just take what people talk about in GvG threads and implement it (all the stuff asked for by high end people)

No forum matters:
http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com/comic.php?d=20080227

Only people matter.
I come here mostly for the extra info and the suggestions page.

The ideas implemented are actually a recompilation from many more places, not just this forum.
Once they thing they have the 'general idea' of what the players want, they see what they can do, then they see if they have time or resources to do it, and they they do what they can.
